Donate "trade lands"
Often, owners may have property that is of high commercial value but of little conservation value due to location. For instance, a building lot in a residential area or city may not be appropriate as conservation land. You may donate such a parcel to the Catoctin Land Trust with the agreement that we may sell it to generate the funds needed to buy more significant conservation lands or to provide funding for the stewardship. You can also leave the Trust trade lands in your will.
Benefits to You:
- Federal income and state tax deductions for the appraised value of the land you donate.
- Relief from paying property tax.
- Reduction of your estate taxes.
